Description

This is a modern representation of a traditional “Machi” Mapuche medicine woman.

The machi is the highest spiritual and religious authority of the Mapuche, she is a healer with great knowledge of medicinal plants and other remedies, has the ability to interpret dreams and is able to communicate with the spirits during the healing ceremonies, called Machitun, during which she uses a specific kind of hand drum called the kultrun.

The Mapuche are an indigenous people of south-central Chile and southwestern Argentina.  Estimations vary, but they are the biggest indigenous population of the area, numbering at least 1.000.000 individuals.
